The action of the bioactive glass particles in this toothpaste initiates when they come in contact with a moist environment. The composition of bioactive glass consists of amorphous calcium-sodium-phosphosilicate (CSPS). This compound exhibits a high level of reactivity when it encounters aqueous environments, such as the saliva present in the mouth. When the bioactive glass is exposed to saliva, sodium ions are released from it. In the presence of saliva, these released sodium ions interact with hydrogen cations (H3O+) found in the saliva, resulting in a temporary and localized elevation in pH levels. This increase in pH facilitates the release of calcium, phosphate, and silica ions, which together contribute to the formation of a durable layer similar to hydroxyapatite (HA). The primary uses of this toothpaste include supporting the remineralization of tooth surfaces, particularly for managing white spot lesions and preventing the loss of tooth structure due to acidity. It is effective in enhancing enamel remineralization and reversing damage caused by acidic diets or harmful bacterial acids. Additionally, it aids in the daily remineralization of white spot lesions during orthodontic treatments and for individuals at risk of dental caries. The product also functions to seal dentinal tubules on exposed dentin, creating a protective barrier against acid attacks and providing prolonged relief from sensitivity. Furthermore, it is recommended for use before meals in individuals experiencing acid erosion due to conditions such as gastritis or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), as well as for strengthening tooth surfaces around whitening treatments.
